Delete Your Data
This page explains how to delete data associated with your use of Car Catalog. Most of it you can remove yourself, immediately, from inside the Application. For the rest, write to us.
There is no account to delete. Car Catalog never asks for your name, email address or password. Your data is held against a random device identifier generated by our server on first launch — so deleting your data means deleting everything stored under that identifier.
1. What You Can Delete Yourself
These take effect immediately and need no request:
- Favourites — remove individually, or clear the list, in the Application.
- Recently viewed — clear the history in the Application.
- Saved searches — delete them in the Application.
- A photograph you uploaded — withdraw it in the Application. It disappears from public view at once; the files are deleted after 30 days.
- Push notifications — turn them off in the Application or in your device settings. This deletes the push token we hold.
Uninstalling the Application stops all further collection and makes the existing data unreachable from your device — a reinstall gets a new identifier and a fresh start. It does not, by itself, erase what is already stored on our side. To have that removed, send the request below.
2. How to Request Full Deletion
Send an email to [email protected] with the subject "Data deletion request" and include your device identifier.
Where to find your device identifier: it is shown in the Application's settings screen, where it can be copied. It is a long string of letters and digits.
We need it because it is the only thing that connects the data to you. Without an account, an email address or a name on file, there is no other way for us to find your records — and no way for us to be sure a request is really yours. This is a direct consequence of not collecting your identity in the first place.
If you have already uninstalled and no longer have the identifier, tell us anyway — we may be able to help using the approximate date and the photographs you uploaded, though we cannot promise it.
3. What Gets Deleted, and What Does Not
| Data | On a deletion request |
|---|---|
| Device record Identifier, platform, app version, language, time zone | Deleted |
| Push token | Deleted |
| Favourites, history, saved searches | Deleted |
| Your uploaded photographs | Removed from the catalogue; files deleted |
| Request logs and analytics events | Deleted for that identifier, and in any case expire after 90 days |
| Reports and feedback you sent | Contact details removed. The report itself is retained — see below |
| Moderation records Rejections, upload suspensions | Retained where a legal claim may depend on them — see below |
| Aggregate view counters | Not deleted — they contain no identifier and cannot be traced to you |
| Purchase records (Premium) | Detached from your device and anonymised at once; the anonymised record is kept for up to 3 years because refunds and payment disputes can still arise. The purchase itself stays with Apple or Google under their policies — deleting your data here does not cancel a subscription |
Why some records are retained
Two categories survive a deletion request, and both are narrow:
- Reports about content, without your contact details. A complaint is the reason something was removed. If we deleted the complaint along with the complainant, the removal would become unexplainable — and a copyright case resolved by deleting a photograph would decay into a record of nothing. We remove your name and email from the report; the substance stays.
- Moderation decisions. If content was removed or uploading was suspended, the decision and its reason are kept so that the decision can be reviewed on appeal and so that we can answer a rights holder who asks what was done about their claim.
Where no legal claim or ongoing case depends on them, these records are deleted too. Say so in your request and we will tell you exactly what remains and why.
4. Data Held by Third Parties
Some data never reaches us and is held directly by the services listed in the Privacy Policy. We cannot delete it on your behalf:
- Google AdMob — advertising identifiers. Reset or limit yours in your device settings: Android → Settings → Google → Ads; iOS → Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising.
- Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, Performance — usage and crash diagnostics, governed by Google's privacy policy.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — download and purchase history, governed by their own policies.
5. Timing
- We acknowledge requests within 7 days.
- Deletion is completed within 30 days.
- Photograph files are removed from storage within 30 days of withdrawal or deletion, after the grace period described in the Terms of Service.
- Backups are overwritten on their own cycle; data may persist in backups for a short period after deletion from the live system, and is not restored to it.
6. Other Data Requests
The same address handles requests to access, correct, export or restrict processing of your data. Your rights are set out in section 12 of the Privacy Policy.
